Kate’s Leather

In the small hamlet of Milk River, Alberta there is a sound. From an average looking garage behind an average looking house the ticking of an antique sewing machine can be heard. A cozy little shop with walls lined with wood-handled tools, neatly stacked leather and bottles of stains and oils. In the corner is an old Singer machine at which sits Kathy. Hands moving with the surety that comes with years of practiced craft. She guides the leather with care, running the stitches along the toughened hide to turn this rigid skin into something functional. On the bench behind her the carving tools, stamps and punches await the next step. To add a woman’s touch of art. To bring beuaty to function… -Corry’s Aesthetics
